ONE: Man, War, Hundred Years

My Great Uncle served in the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) on the Western Front during World War One. He kept a datebook in which he logged his experiences during the Great War. To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of America’s involvement in the Great War, I’ve created an art exhibit inspired by my Great Uncle’s datebook.

This exhibit is my way of revisiting our relationship as an adult; to ask and attempt to answer questions that I as a child could not have asked or even understood the answers to. Many of the paintings are titled using Herb’s own words; those were his side of the conversation. The resulting artwork is about what I felt was written between the lines.
